Substance Abuse

At New Smyrna Wellness Center, we believe in a comprehensive approach to the disease of addiction, including having a dedicated Drug and Alcohol Licensed Mental Health Counselor on staff. Opiate dependency is a deadly epidemic in this country, which requires treatment to prevent morbidity and mortality. Our highly trained and experienced clinicians have options, such as outpatient medication-assistance therapy (Suboxone/Buprenorphine/Subutex), Vivitrol, and IV Amino Acid/NAD.

Medication-Assistance Therapy

Suboxone (buprenorphine) is an opioid-like medication used to treat addiction to narcotic pain medications. It can be very challenging, and even impossible for some patients, to quit using narcotics without some type of assisted therapy or treatment. Suboxone (buprenorphine) is a medication assistance treatment (MAT) that helps patients transition off of addictive opiate drugs. This treatment can safely help patients remain sober while decreasing the effects of withdrawal. Suboxone (buprenorphine) can also block the cravings that lead to a potential relapse.

Vivitrol, also known by the generic name of Naltrexone, is a once-monthly injection that helps treat opiate dependence and assists in preventing relapse to opioid dependence after you have gone through opioid detoxification. It works by blocking the opiate receptors and also decreases the cravings for opiates. This is an opioid-free option suitable for most people trying to overcome opiate dependence. Vivitrol helps control the feeling of a "need" to use opioid medications. Vivitrol (naltrexone) is also indicated for the treatment of alcohol-dependence.

Amino Acid Therapy

NeuroRecover™ also known as infusion therapy or amino acid therapy uses proprietary amino acid based intravenous preparations to assist neurological repair of the addicted brain. It reduces and can eliminate cravings. It is designed to rapidly assist the addicted body in restoring neuro receptor function to normal levels. Once the body’s neuro receptor functions have been healed, the patient’s cravings, anxiety, and depression are reduced or eliminated, allowing the physician to remediate any underlying conditions that may have led to the original substance abuse. Drugs and alcohol damage the nervous system by artificially stimulating neurotransmitter receptors. This continued stimulation eventually dulls the receptors, and causes the need for the sustained or increased use of substances, just to function and feel closer to normal. When one cuts down a number of drugs or alcohol or stops completely, the receptors may heal completely with time, but often they do not. This leads to symptoms such as anxiety, emptiness, brain fog, physical pain, depression, lack of motivation and insomnia. Patients report sleeping better, improved mental clarity, little to no cravings, improved moved, and increased energy with complete Amino Acid/NAD therapy. NeuroRecover™ can be used for alcohol, amphetamines, cocaine, benzodiazepine, barbiturate, opiate, marijuana, and nicotine addiction.
